Upon debugging the problem, I discovered this crap, and am not wasting any effort using their service anymore. I have written an app for grabbing subs from multiple providers, and also noticed the Subscene one had stopped working. Developers get around this via "web-scraping", which is reading and parsing the HTML, and extracting necessary info from it to get links, etc to download.Ĭrappy sites like Subscene can add protection against it, like requiring specific information in the request headers (like a User-Agent, Referrer, etc, etc), browser checking, delays, and all sorts of other pain in the ass stuff to make it more difficult for developers to get around, and/or break existing programs that have not adapted to the changes (such is the case for the Kodi add-on). Unlike SubDB and OpenSubtitles, they have no public API for the purpose of third-party apps to easily find/download subtitles from their site via programming. Pretty sure that Subscene added protection against applications scraping their site, because they are lame. Related subreddits Official Addon Support Public posting of referral links is not allowed.
